Summary

Jane Yellowrock goes back to the city where it all began in the newest installment of this thrilling New York Times best-selling series。

Jane used to hunt vampires, but now she's their queen。 She's holed up in the mountains with the Yellowrock Clan, enjoying a little peace, when a surprise attack on her people proves that trouble is brewing。 Someone is using very old magic to launch a bid for power, and it's all tied to the place where Jane was first drawn into the world of Leo Pellissier - the city of New Orleans。

Jane is compelled to return to NOLA because someone is trying to destabilize the paranormal world order。 And because she now sits near the top of the vampire world, the assault is her problem。 She will do what she must to protect what's hers。 Her city。 Her people。 Her power。 Her crown。

Loved the story but there are so many characters。 I feel like a diagram would have helped keep people/alliances straight。

True Dead by Faith Hunter, is the 14th Jane Yellowrock novel, featuring Cherokee skinwalker, vamp killer, and newly crowned Dark Queen, Jane Yellowrock。After healing in the rift, Jane is enjoying some well-deserved R&R in the mountains with her closest confidantes。 However, she can't hide from her responsibilities forever。 As the Dark Queen, Master of the City of New Orleans, and Bloodmaster of Yellowrock Clan, Jane has people depending on her。 When an attack is launched at vamp HQ in NOLA, Jane True Dead by Faith Hunter, is the 14th Jane Yellowrock novel, featuring Cherokee skinwalker, vamp killer, and newly crowned Dark Queen, Jane Yellowrock。After healing in the rift, Jane is enjoying some well-deserved R&R in the mountains with her closest confidantes。 However, she can't hide from her responsibilities forever。 As the Dark Queen, Master of the City of New Orleans, and Bloodmaster of Yellowrock Clan, Jane has people depending on her。 When an attack is launched at vamp HQ in NOLA, Jane is thrust back into the thick of things。 Used to being an Enforcer, she is now forced to take a back seat in her role as the Dark Queen。 Jane doesn't like it, and neither does her twin-soul, Beast。 Not content to sit idly by, Jane begins delving into the history of vampires, specifically from NOLA, in an effort to learn who may be behind the recent attacks。 What she learns is that the enemy may be closer than she thought, and that no one in NOLA is safe。I love this series, period。 This book was somewhat of a departure in that Jane wasn't involved in many battles except on the periphery。 She still took an active role, working to unravel the tangled threads that had been in place for centuries as she sought to identify enemies and allies both。 Near-immortal vampires can afford to be patient as they lay their traps and put their pieces into play。 None of them counted on Jane, however。 There was a lot of action in this one, stunning betrayals, and some sobering losses。 Beast is present but not always forthcoming with Jane。 In fact, a lot of people were keeping things from her, and Jane didn't like it。 This didn't end on a cliffhanger, per se, but it created a nice set up for the future of the series。 I am looking forward to it! Five stars! 。。。more

- Too much time spent on intensely boring navel-gazing。 I nearly stopped reading midway through because of this。 - This is the opposite of a stand-alone book。 Everything in the plot hinges on so many convolutions that took place in previous books。 There were also so many characters popping up, most of whom I couldn’t remember anymore。- It felt like the author had an outline of some things that needed to happen in this book, and also connect the dots to explain things。 She just took care of those - Too much time spent on intensely boring navel-gazing。 I nearly stopped reading midway through because of this。 - This is the opposite of a stand-alone book。 Everything in the plot hinges on so many convolutions that took place in previous books。 There were also so many characters popping up, most of whom I couldn’t remember anymore。- It felt like the author had an outline of some things that needed to happen in this book, and also connect the dots to explain things。 She just took care of those and there didn't seem to be any kind of personal relationships growing or interactions happening really。 。。。more

Entertaining continuation of the series。 I suggest rereading the previous book prior to reading this one, as there were some things I had forgotten (or maybe that weren't covered) in the previous book。 Entertaining continuation of the series。 I suggest rereading the previous book prior to reading this one, as there were some things I had forgotten (or maybe that weren't covered) in the previous book。 。。。more

3。5 star Started well, got a little boring/bogged down in parts as it goes over the convoluted history tying all the previous events, plots and villains into one big ongoing conspiracy。 too many threads to keep straight especially as we are on book 14。 Others will probably like it but as I have been reading this series since it began so many years ago it just hurts my head。 I would rather new enemies and plots that are not interwoven with every other thing Jane has experienced since the beginnin 3。5 star Started well, got a little boring/bogged down in parts as it goes over the convoluted history tying all the previous events, plots and villains into one big ongoing conspiracy。 too many threads to keep straight especially as we are on book 14。 Others will probably like it but as I have been reading this series since it began so many years ago it just hurts my head。 I would rather new enemies and plots that are not interwoven with every other thing Jane has experienced since the beginning of time 。。。more

And now we wait。Excellent read, as always。 The story flows smoothly with the former books of the saga and leaves you disappointed when it's over。 Not because the story wasn't great, but now you have to wait for the next one because this was the new one。 And now we wait。Excellent read, as always。 The story flows smoothly with the former books of the saga and leaves you disappointed when it's over。 Not because the story wasn't great, but now you have to wait for the next one because this was the new one。 。。。more

Not a cliffhanger But not a HEA either。 Can't wait for the next chapter in Jane Yellowrock's story。 I love that Faith Hunter comes up with twists and turns that I don't see coming。 Not a cliffhanger But not a HEA either。 Can't wait for the next chapter in Jane Yellowrock's story。 I love that Faith Hunter comes up with twists and turns that I don't see coming。 。。。more

EnjoyedJane, in my opinion, is much more developed character。 Love Beast。 This moved the story on and led onto where the story will go next。 Thoroughly recommended but you do need to have read the previous books。

Loved it!This series gets better with each new addition。 Mrs。 Hunter is an amazing and creative writer with an excellent vocabulary! I love it!!

BloodyI liked this but the pacing seemed a little off。 It was very bloody with a few deaths close to Jane that occurred too quickly and easily in my opinion。 Everyone is changing roles and Jane always seemed behind when trying to figure out the long game。 I felt like this book was a bit distracted and while some new characters appeared few had much depth。 I liked this book but there was a little something missing from this story compared with previous books。 I get the fleeing that book fifteen m BloodyI liked this but the pacing seemed a little off。 It was very bloody with a few deaths close to Jane that occurred too quickly and easily in my opinion。 Everyone is changing roles and Jane always seemed behind when trying to figure out the long game。 I felt like this book was a bit distracted and while some new characters appeared few had much depth。 I liked this book but there was a little something missing from this story compared with previous books。 I get the fleeing that book fifteen may be the last。 。。。more

Fantastic series, love it wholly。

Irene

There were many parts I enjoyed however this one was work to get through。 All the inner dialogue involving Mithras history was relevant but unpleasant to get through。 Otherwise Jane is awesome。 (Dark Queen #12 was the best!)I would be happy with one more book concluding this series which I hear may be the case。 I’m done with vampire books and want closure with this cast。 I so love the Soulwood series and enjoyed the inclusion of Aya in this one。

Love the series!

I loved it! This is one of my favorite authors。 The plot is excellent。 Things are so different from the earlier books in the series but Jane is still Jane and every book in the series is relevant。 I can't get enough of this Urban Fantasy world! This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 Ebook-own SPOILERS: I chuckle at this title。 Because the way the author is manipulating these magical items, the powers of Onorios and other paranormal characters and the rules of her world?!?!?!。。。。。。。。 there's really no such thing as True Dead。 Leo is back。 Thrice born。 And even though I sound a little salty, I'm not unhappy about Leo's presence。 He's never been my favorite because he was always controlling and I definitely didn't like the idea of some readers of Jane and Leo being "romantic。 Ebook-own SPOILERS: I chuckle at this title。 Because the way the author is manipulating these magical items, the powers of Onorios and other paranormal characters and the rules of her world?!?!?!。。。。。。。。 there's really no such thing as True Dead。 Leo is back。 Thrice born。 And even though I sound a little salty, I'm not unhappy about Leo's presence。 He's never been my favorite because he was always controlling and I definitely didn't like the idea of some readers of Jane and Leo being "romantic。 Hell to the nawh。 (Apologies Jane for the minor curse word。) The way this story line is heading。。。。his character is necessary。 But honestly it was an odd handling of his appearance in the book。 Sort of "ho hum"。 This is MAJOR to me and the author has him show up, act strange, unload some mysterious information and that's that for a while。 Are you kidding me?!?! Leo。 Is。 Back!!!!!!** I get it。 Major stuff going on with Gramma, Ka, Shaun。。。。yada yada blah blah blah。 But LEO is freaking alive-ish。 **The Eli "death/revival"。 I don't have the words right now。 Eye roll。 My frustration: towards the beginning of the book, Beast uses her speed to help Jane freaking pull a gun and kill someone。 In the scene of Eli's near death, Jane had already pulled some amazing, unexplainable physical acts but because her weapon was in a little bit of a different area of her armor, she's too slow (?!?!) to block the attack which results in Dovic slicing into Eli's leg?。And now Eli and Jane's heartbeats are in sync。 Eye roll。 We have no idea "what" Eli is now because of all the vamp blood and what Jane did with the Glob, her blood, etc。 Eye roll。I like Eli。 I'm not upset that he's alive。 It's just。 I don't know。 I sort of feel like the author has made her villains so powerful that she has to then make the humans around Jane "more" so that it makes sense for them to be around。 When we are this many books in。。。I need the author to do a glossary of characters AT THE BEGINNING OF THE BOOK。 There are so many characters and different types of paranormal creatures and magical abilities plus the magical items, that I would appreciate a source to reference。 There was a little something at the end, but it was mainly about the Pellisier bloodline。*** Sigh ***3 stars。 Not the worst in the series。 Not the best。I like Leo's back。 I like Koun。 I'm like Jane in that I'm not quite sure how I feel about her lady-in-waiting, Quintel(???? I know I haven't spelled her name right。) She's creepy but Cool?Still love Bruiser。 I like Aya (biological brother), being more present in Jane's life。I liked how the author has Jane reconnecting with her spiritual life。 The conversation about the souls of the vampires is interesting to me。 My main frustration with this book is as a reader I'm getting the feeling like the "rules" of this world are being manipulated for some reason。 Like things are being created out of thin air to serve a convenient purpose currently。 I just don't get the feeling like this has been planned or mapped out from the beginning。 。。。more

3。5* Lots and lots going on here。 It draws mostly on previous characters and their stories and the plot thickens and keeps getting bigger and mostly better。 Picked up when they’re back in NOLA。 Jane is very bad-a。 Wish there had been more with Bruiser。

Yeukai

First part of book, Jane was in her head a lot so it was slow。 However it did pick up and deliver at the end。 It has interesting twists in it!

Good news, the night has gotten better。 Loved the new and changed relationships。 The same ones that we grew to love (Brute) and those we grew to hate。 Having Jane grow as a character and to tame the arrogance that sometimes consumes her but still have Beast as a sometimes I/we personality opens up great possibilities。 At times it got overrun with characters, timelines and situations but hopefully this will lead us to a new direction or an amazing end for Jane Yellowrock。

Laura Steinert

Having read 25 books by this author, my conclusion is that 23 would have been a better place to stop。 I had so loved the earlier Jane books and of course the Soul Wood series was magnificent, but I think I just don't have it in me to try another。 It took me over a week to finish this as I looked for any excuse to put it down。 Having read 25 books by this author, my conclusion is that 23 would have been a better place to stop。 I had so loved the earlier Jane books and of course the Soul Wood series was magnificent, but I think I just don't have it in me to try another。 It took me over a week to finish this as I looked for any excuse to put it down。 。。。more
